Privacy and trust

Your data. Your terms.

Privacy is a feature of the product, not a footnote. Here's exactly how it works.

You choose what to share.

Every task you create has a visibility setting. "Household" means everyone in your family can see it. "Just me" means it's invisible to everyone else. You change it on a task-by-task basis.

You can use the app privately.

You don't have to connect to anyone. Many of our users keep their data entirely to themselves. The app works exactly the same whether you share or not.

We do not sell your data.

We charge a subscription. That's how we keep the lights on. We don't sell, share, or monetize your data in any other way. No advertising. No data brokers.

Designed to protect independence.

The app's primary user is the person it's about — not their caregiver. Privacy controls, visibility settings, and the viewer role exist specifically so seniors don't feel monitored against their will.

Bank-grade infrastructure.

All connections use HTTPS. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. Database access is restricted to a dedicated service account scoped to our own data only.

You can delete it all.

Cancel your subscription and request a full account deletion at any time. We'll remove your data from our systems.

The privacy policy in plain English.

The legalese version is below the summary. We tried to make both as clear as possible.

What we collect

  • The email address and name you sign up with.
  • The tasks, medications, appointments, and messages you create in the app.
  • Acknowledgments — "Done" taps and message read receipts.
  • Basic technical info needed for security: device type, app version, IP address at sign-in time.

What we don't collect

  • Your location. We don't ask for it, and we don't track it.
  • Your contacts. We don't read your address book.
  • Your other apps. We have no insight into what else is on your phone.
  • Your health records. We don't connect to any health system. You enter only what you enter.

Who can see what

  • Tasks marked "household" are visible to the members of your household.
  • Tasks marked "private" (just you) are visible only to you.
  • Messages are visible to everyone in the household.
  • Our engineering team can access aggregate, anonymized stats for capacity planning. We don't read individual data.

Your rights

  • Request a copy of your data at any time.
  • Request deletion of your account and all associated data.
  • Opt out of marketing emails (we send very few, and only to the account email).

To exercise any of these rights, write to privacy@ourhelpinghand.com.
